Emergence II
Flow | Growth | Erosion

2024
200cm (width) × 300cm (depth) × 65cm (height)
Concept & Design
Reminiscent of lichens and corals this work uses visual language to depict and make us pay attention to the world that we are part of.
Coral reefs and lichens have much in common. They are extremely habitat specific. They are both sensitive to disturbances, and they are multiple organisms working together.
Flow also references clepsydra, water clock (meaning “water thief” in Greek), an ancient system that uses a controlled flow of liquid to measure the time.
In our society we seem to have a worldview of a toddler, framing our personal needs and wants above anything else (including other humans!), seemingly oblivious to the rapid depletion of natural resources and biodiversity caused by our reckless disregard of our environment.
What happens if we view humanity not as the evolutionary end point, but the part of the lifecycle of the Earth and perhaps a catalyst?
Proposed are two possible scenarios: growth or erosion.
Construction
Emergence (2022) was exhibited at Venice Biennale and is now permanently housed at European Cultural Academy in Venice.
This is a second version of Emergence, and is growing into bigger installation, consisting of 3 separate objects; incorporating water dripping, unfired clay and live fish.
